Number of people:
See dates
The south-west coast of England
To compete in this once in a lifetime challenge you will need the ability to be versatile, dedicated, committed and a team player. You will also need to be enthusiastic about sailing and racing a yacht.

In return, completing this challenge will give you a huge sense of achievement - and hopefully a great result!

This will give each crew member over 1,000 nautical miles of offshore racing and training. We believe that it is one of the most complete packages available.

The Fastnet is not a race for beginners, but with the training and qualifying races included in our package you will have the experience necessary not only to compete in this classic offshore race but to excel in it.

Rough schedule:
Training weekend - 18/19 May 2019 (0900 arrival)
Myth of Malham race - Sat 25th May 2019
De Guingand Bowl race - Sat 8th June 2019
Training weekend - 22/23 June 2019 (0900 arrival)
St. Malo race - Fri 12th July 2019
Channel race - Sat 27th July 2019
Fastnet race - Saturday 3rd August 2019
Cherbourg race - Fri 6th Sept 2019
Additional information:
  • 2 training weekends
  • 4 RORC offshore qualifying races, plus RORC Cherbourg race
  • Fastnet race
  • All safety equipment
  • All food on-board, mooring fees and fuel
  • Team Polo shirt
  • Crew jacket and cap (option to purchase)

Requires 300nm offshore racing prior to the Fastnet, which can be gained through the 4 RORC qualifying races included in this course.

You will need to have done some sailing but not necessarily have racing experience. You'll also need to have a reasonable level of fitness as racing can and is physically demanding.

If you're not keen on doing the Fastnet, you can still join us on any of the RORC qualifying races for £325.

Email us at info@firstechelonsailing.org, or call us at 07770522752.
All dates to be confirmed in November 2018

Training Weekend One  Meet the skipper and the rest of the crew on the Friday evening for a packed weekend. This is our chance for the crew to get to know each other and the yacht.

RORC De Guingand Bowl Race (125nm) This is our first offshore race of the campaign and the destination is likely to be cross channel, (start line is off Cowes on the Friday evening).  We aim to return to Gosport for the Sunday afternoon.

RORC Cowes to St. Malo Race (185nm) Our second race of the campaign is also spread over a weekend and aside from the Fastnet Race is the longest course at 175 miles. This will require a day off work on the Friday. The return passage back to Gosport will almost double your mileage for the weekend.

Training Weekend Two  With an evening seminar on the Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday will be devoted to race training afloat, specifically looking at trim, boat speed and spinnaker handling. Accommodation is provided onboard.

RORC Channel Race (125nm) Our third race weekend of the campaign is the final time we sail together before the Fastnet Race itself. Crew meet on Friday evening, with race start on the Saturday morning, we will be back on Sunday. The race is likely to last beween 24 and 36 hours and will be around marks set offshore in the English Channel.

Fastnet Prep Day  Crew meet Saturday morning for a day of final preparation with a crew meal ashore and early night before the big race.

RORC Fastnet Race (608nm) The race starts Sunday from Cowes. 609 miles later we will have rounded the Fastnet Rock (Ireland) and fought our way to the finish line at Plymouth.

RORC Cherbourg Race (September) While many teams will wrap their season up after the Fastnet Race the serious teams will continue their Campaign with this final race of the season. Our fifth race is really intended to improve our points in the 2019 RORC series.
